Happy New Year! I hope everybody had a peaceful and restful break. It's been great to get back into the classroom with the Stars.
We had another successful time at our Snow Party. Thank you, for all the help, supplies, planning and treats. The class looks forward to the monthly parties and we also enjoy the social connections. Thank you.
Right before the break Ms. Anderson's class came to our room for a morning of center time. We have enjoyed the cameraderie and friendships that we have formed since the beginning of the year when we started Science Buddy's.
We were fortunate to be able to visit the three 5th grade classes to view
their latest math projects. The objective was to take an ordinary object and enlarge it to scale, with exact proportions. Some of our favorites were...the i-touch, eyeglasses, fork, and doggy bone. It was a great experience for us to see some of the big kids and to know what we have to look forward to as me make our way through our school experience at Thurston.
The Story Time Players came to share two performances with our class: Pepita Talks and The Three Javalina's. We enjoyed hearing and watching the oral telling of these two books. We have been learning about different versions of stories, and stories of three,as well.

To tie in with our Construction science unit we were able to spend two days, working outside, with packing snow to create igloos, snow forts, and snow people!
A note from our Principal, Ms. York ...
A Thurston Elementary School Tribute:
The work of Martin Luther King Jr. & the March on Selma. On Monday, February 20, 2014 our Community will celebrate the life of MLK with a day off from school. Prior to this day Thurston will be doing a shoe drive to remember the dedication and work of MLK’s leadership during the March on Selma. Our community donation of shoes will symbolize the support shared amongst the nation for equality. We are asking for each student to bring in a slightly worn pair of shoes by thisFriday, January 17, 2014. We will place these shoes in the halls to remember the journey traveled by so many. When we return to school on Tuesday, these donations will be shipped to “Donate Your Shoes” a non-profit organization.
It was hard to say good-bye to Shulamite, who is settled in her new house. We hope to also keep in touch with her via e-mail and letters.
Please welcome Nishanth, Dommety he is the newest Star and classmate in room #10.
Stewart Stars earned the Library trophy this week! Hooray for the Stars!
