Hello Families! Our fall is starting to feel like winter. This month we said a sad farewell to our friend, Annie. I will be posting her new address soon. As a class we will be sending e-mails back and forth and also doing some writing projects so we can keep in touch.
Mrs. Mortensen brought in a paper wasp nest to share with our class. This tied in nicely with our Collections of Nature science unit.
We had a informatiove visit from Deb Lents, of Tantre Farms. You can find them at the A2 Farmer's Market. This visit is a part of our Farm to School Project.. She brought many different plants for your student to taste and shared valuable information re: farm to table foods. We tasted, french sorrell, califlower, dinosaur kale, sweet bell peppers and hakurei turnips, Deb left enough shelling beans for our whole class to plant in the spring. Looking forward to getting back out in the garden. It was a great experience for us to eat roots, stems, leaves and flowers.
Congratulations to Imani and her family as they welcome a new member to their family! She is a big sisiter to a new baby sister!
We have begun our new science unit: Class Pet. Pets from home will be invited to visit our classroom as long as the adult stays the entire time. If the pet lives in a cage or an aquarium, or tank, they are invited to come and stay for a while in the classroom. I need to know if there are any serious allegies to any pet, as we will have short term visitors. Please e-mail me with your ideas and we can set up a plan.
Our class has earned two awards this month. Not only did we win the P.E. crown, we also earned 50 stars for our behavior in music. Since we earned the 50 stars, we are going to have a Friday baseball game as our reward. I am so excited to be a part of your child's success.
We had a wonderful and educational visit form the Ann Arbor Symphony woodwind performers. They performed five pieces for our class and discussed the different parts of their insturments. Some of us were more into the music than others... but still a gret experience!

With winter coming, I would like to remind you to make sure you child knows how to put on all their gear. Mittens tend to be easier than gloves and pull-up snow pants are easier than bib overalls. Please practice with your child so they know how to zip, put on their boots, and other outdoor clothing. This is a great time to teach independence and self-help skills.
I want to end with the warm feeling I have after getting to meet with families at our conferences. I love observing and sharing and spending time with your children. I love watching and supporting and being a part of your child's growth and development. We feel like a family now. It only took 50 days, to establish a community of caring, responsibility, companionship, and respect. I feel we are bonding as a class and as a community of learners. We are understanding that we all work together and we all have an effect on each other. I am so looking forward to the next 130 some days together.
Great work families! You have given me 21 wonderful stars and I will make every day count as we grow and learn together.
